Elizabeth R and Company is Dare County's only resident professional producing theatrical company. A 501(c)3 non-profit organization, it produces professional stage, video and audio productions centered on various aspects of American history. The Manteo-based company also promotes scholarly research, symposia, seminars, and theatrical interpretations of history.

Additionally, the company produces special educational programs for and with students. The new musical drama, The Colony That Was Lost, is an educational program and performance designed specifically for elementary school students.

Elizabeth R and Company's main production is their international hit one-woman show Elizabeth R, which plays during the summer months at The Elizabethan Gardens on Roanoke Island.

Since 1993, Elizabeth R has been performed to rave reviews at the Pioneer Theatre in Manteo; The Elizabethan Gardens; on tour in England; Scotland's Edinburgh Festival; Youghal, Ireland; the Players Club Theatre in New York City and at 30 locations throughout the mid-Atlantic states.

Elizabeth R & Company also produces Bloody Mary and the Virgin Queen, a riotous musical comedy that plays each summer in Manteo. The fast-paced romp through Tudor history is now in its eleventh production season.
